Joel Turns 40!

Well about a week ago, Joel faced that momentous occasion we all dread. He turned 40! His actual birthday was fairly low key being a Wednesday. We had a nice dinner at home and cookies and ice cream for dessert. The boys and I had walked to Fleur D Lys bakery earlier in the day to make sure we had some good cookies! The big celebration actually came about 2 weeks prior to Joel's birthday when I threw him a surprise party. The party was held at McMenamins Kennedy School with about 40 of Joel's good friends, coworkers, and family. Joel was actually, truly, surprised which made me happy. I had put a lot of work into planning this party so I was very relieved that he hadn't figured anything out beforehand! One of the funniest parts of the party revolved around the old mustache Joel used to sport. I had printed some old photos of Joel complete with mustache to have on the tables at the party. To add on to the joke, one of Joel's coworkers bought a bunch of fake mustaches for everyone to wear. So if you see a picture of people with black mustaches, that's why! Quinn Turns 1 !

On May 22nd we celebrated Quinn's first birthday. It's hard to believe a whole year has flown by since he became part of our family! His special day ended up being stretched into 3 days with 3 separate celebrations. He got to have a little shin dig at daycare, a small celebration with Nolan, Joel and I on his actual birthday, and a family party the day after. I'd say he did pretty well. It came as no surprise that he devoured his whole piece of cake in about 5 minutes and while he had no interest in opening his presents, big brother was more than happy to help out! Quinn has been sure to fill his first year of life with excitement and we can't wait to see what the second year brings. Happy Birthday Little Bug!

Easter 2009

Well this post is a bit tardy but I wanted to put it on the blog anyway. We had a nice Easter holiday having the family over to our home. The boys enjoyed an Easter Egg hunt (indoors due to the lovely weather!) with their cousins. I think the Easter Bunny did a pretty good job!

Beach Trip, Spring Break 2009

For the last few days of my spring break we rented a house in Pacific City with my sister Rebecca and her family. The weather wasn't stellar but we had a good time anyway. Nolan enjoyed playing with his cousins Carter and Jacob and Quinn got in on the action whenever he could. We got one good walk in on the beach and some good playtime in the sand on Friday morning. Saturday was totally rainy so we took the boys to the Aquarium in Newport. Nolan's favorite thing was the sharks. He even got to pet a sand shark along with his cousin Carter. The leopard shark was his very favorite. We hit good old McDonald's on the way back to the beach house for a quick lunch and everyone was happy. We hope to get our two families together for more trips like this in the future!
